Happy 1st Birthday!

Harrison is one year old!!! It has truly flown by so fast, especially since everyday is full of fun and wonder with Harrison.

Harrison's birthday party was originally set for St. George, but due to last minute family circumstances, it was moved to SLC (sorry, again, for the change!). The party was everything we hoped for. Thanks to Uncles Jeremy and Brandon for the fun cowboy decorations and costumes.

Harrison remembered from Christmas how to open presents. He did so well sitting on the Ottoman all by himself.

Harrison LOVES puppies (pup-pup). What a fun surprise to open a present from Dean, Carol, and John with a puppy inside! That puppy has been well loved, since. Mommy has named him Chocolate.

Harrison and Mommy had practiced singing "Happy Birthday" and even blowing air before the big event. He loves the song, but we should have used a real flame in practice, because he didn't want to blow out the candle on his cake; he wanted to grab at it, and got mad when we told him 'no'. We'll work on that for next year.

There were two cakes. Brandon gave his cake to the cause for us all to eat (sooo nummy!) and Mommy made the smash cake, cut like a horse head.

Smash cakes are a new idea in the McCullough family, but when we heard about it a few years ago, we knew we had to do it! Who doesn't envy that baby getting cake all over, up and down, and squishy? We'd all personally like to have our own smash cake, right?

Harrison started slow with his smash cake. Maybe the coconut deterred him a little (which was hilarious to pull out of his nose after his bath), but the horse's mane was frosting so that became the attack. After a couple go's, it didn't take Harrison long to demolish the cake. Thanks to Jer and Christian for showing him how to put frosting all over his head:) Made for great-looking bath water!

Here's the aftermath of Harrison's cake. Poor horsey!

Harrison is great at sharing! He also understands "thank you." He wanted to share cake with Mommy, Daddy, and Great Grandma Kendall. So nice!

Thanks to ALL for an absolutely WONDERFUL 1st birthday!!!

Baby Words

While I get ready in the morning, or am piddling around in the room, I turn on the clock radio for Harrison to enjoy. He likes to turn the knobs, making the volume louder and choosing the oddest stations. Sometimes we go from rock, to country, to Spanish. Today he decided to land on the song "Respect." R-E-S-P-E-C-T hmmm Is is trying to say something? Sorry, kid. Still not playing in the bathroom with mommy.

Also, as Harrison has begun speaking and using words, or imitating sounds, I have noticed that the majority of baby words have 2 syllables.

Graduation

YEAH!!! Elisha has graduated with her bachelor degree in organizational communications from Dixie State College. What a relief! Thanks to DSC for creating an 18 month program, otherwise it would have taken years and years.

Harrison was the youngest in the class (yes, he attended some classes with Elisha), so it was only fitting that he go across stage with Elisha.

Naturally, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to achieve such an honor without family (thanks for coming all!)

and an AMAZING and WONDERFUL husband, Jason.

Elisha was also honored by receiving an award in Leadership and Organization. So, she has a beautiful award to put up. Unfortunately, no cords to color her robes or prove such honors.

Thanks to everyone for your support and cheering. Seriously, that helped along the way!

AND, Elisha will now be known as Mrs. Jones, as she will be teaching sign language next year in a local high school. A semester of unofficial student teaching and tons of learning paid off!

Look for May 2011, when Jason graduates with his BA in English secondary ed!

Funny Harrison

Almost 11 months, 21 pounds, and still our favorite boy!

He's got a beat and loves to dance. He and mom often dance together. Maybe there will be a future in it?

Harrison's hair is getting crazy long. Mom decided to comb it back, making it stick up. Harrison woke up that way, too. The babysitter kindly fixed it by the time mom got back. The "I Love Grandma" is what he's screaming. She'd most likely be feeding him his cereal, not taking pictures.

Harrison also loves hugs and giving kisses. His kisses are so darn cute - he licks our face:)
He's not picky about what food to eat, but lately isn't sure about pear juice.
Harrison isn't shy, just cautious about strangers. Luckily not so much that new babysitters and friends are accepted quickly.
He understands and signs milk, dad, hands-up, eat, diaper, more, bye-bye, pony, puppy, more, and thank you. I'm sure there are more than that.
Harrison says dada, mom, baba, uh-oh, uh-uh (meaning 'no' and 'all gone', and apps (apples) and is working on balloon.
Plus, he LOVES to smile and go on walks. We stop to see all the puppies and kitties on the way, or anything new.
Paper is fun to tear, even eat, when mom's not looking.

First Balloon

Every time we go to Harmon's, Harrison's eye is on the free balloons at the check stand. I haven't really wanted him to have one, but one of the nice managers decided it was time. It was decided that Harrison's favorite color is yellow, so that's the color of balloon he got.

Harrison LOVES this balloon! He played with it the rest of the evening after he got it. It was hard to take it away for bedtime, but I attached it to the door handle, and that seemed to suffice. This morning, when I went to rescue him, Harrison was talking to his balloon, now on the ground. He kept squirming, so I gave it to him in order to change his diaper. When it was time to eat his cereal, I put the balloon right next to him, but out of reach. He freaked. There was no consoling those big tears and wails. So, Harrison ate his cereal with his balloon. But, don't worry, he still has priorities. When it was time for the milk, the balloon went to the side. Know the funny thing? When he went to the babysitter's, she had a big purple balloon. You bet that was his friend today!
