Jason's birthday is always a fantastic event! This year was no different. Jason likes to go rough camping, but the last couple years have been too rough, especially for the kids. So, we went camping at his mom's and brother's. Perfect!
If you don't know yet, the perfect number is 8. That's exactly what month and day Jason's birthday is on! It's also when the fair is, so that became part of the festivities. First, we had a wonderful dinner by brother, Jeremy. The pulled pork and coleslaw sandwiches were to die for! Add perfectly decorated cupcakes and you got a complete birthday dinner!
Elisha had created a crossword puzzle just for Jason. He got stumped on a few clues, but they all had to do with him. Isn't the internet wonderful? Such great, free programs.
After dinner, Jeremy, Brandon, John, Elisha, Jason, Harrison, and Kendall headed to the fair, just up the street. We wandered around, and checked out the goods. Jason signed Kendall up for the baby contest. Jeremy and Elisha took the boys to the petting area. Such fun animals. There were huge horses and even a miniature horse with a foal. So fun! Harrison laughed when the big horse lipped his finger when he fed it.
Elisha also entered the ice cream eating contest. Eating a pint would be no problem! But, when she sat down, a 1.5 quart of vanilla ice cream was placed in front! Um, that wasn't expected. The cute old lady next to her also was told it'd be a pint. So, the race was on! Elisha took two huge bites, then froze - literally. From then on, it was a normal speed and spoonfulls. The cute lady was eating daintily. She's 68 years old; just needs something fun to do. Know the funny part? Harrison was standing right there, watching Elisha eat ice cream, and bawling. "Mommy's not sharing!" Too funny! Elisha didn't win, especially when first gets $20, second $10, and third $5. After ice cream, we all got funnel cake!
After the fair, we had more partying to do! After roasting s'mores (we're camping, remember) we HAD to play some games. Jason LOVES games. Even though it was late, we played. Elisha's mom had given Jason a Game Bible, which has tons of games and Jason wanted to try some out. We played one where partners were each trying to get four of a kind. Once one of them attained that goal, they did their secret signal to the other. If anyone caught on, the point was taken away. The other game required thinking. Some of us could do that. One player created a pattern, while others tried to guess the pattern by laying down cards. Tricky! Though algebra was attempted at one point, that never came up.
Another favorite thing of Jason's is movies! Elisha had obtained a projector, and with Jeremy's laptop and white table cloth hung outside, we had a drive-in movie! Fantastic and so much fun. The movie of the night was Sherlock Holmes. What a great day!
The next day, Jeremy, John, Elisha, Jason, Harrison, and Kendall all went swimming. The boys love swimming; Kendall more than Harrison. Later in the day, Elisha still had a scavenger hunt up her sleeve for Jason to do. Just our family went to Harmon's where Jason was given clues to various items, conveniently also on our shopping list. Some stumped him, like 'Is it a football player or a drink?' OJ! hehe Jason was especially happy for an indoor activity.
Jason, happy THIRTY-FIVE!!! We all love you and would hate to know what it's like without you. You're amazing and so supportive. Thank you for your wonderful self!
