Our Baby Story

You've met the baby, now find out how he got here.

Sunday morning, May 24 a week after the due date, Elisha and I woke up to a phone call telling us it was time to head to the hospital to be induced. By the time we got ready, ate breakfast, walked to the hospital, and checked in it was nearly 11 o'clock. The Pitosin started within a half hour.

The doctor was very hopeful because when we arrived, Elisha was already dilated to a 4. The Pitosin kicked in right away, and the doctor broke her water soon after. Things were going great. Elisha received an epidural which slowed things down, but they were still progressing.

A few hours later she was dilated to a seven. Unfortunately, Harrison's heartbeat was showing a pattern of slowing down with the contractions. This scared the doctor just a bit, so he was slow to increase the Pitosin and the overall process.

By 6 a.m. Elisha was finally dilated to an 8+. It looked like they were planning on the process coming to an end soon, for they had brought in the baby scale and bassinet. I did what I could to prepare for the impending process. Then the nurse came in. She checked Elisha and said that she probably was barely an 8. Another nurse confirmed this, then the doctor came in. He also said that she wasn't as dilated as expected. Apparently, the cervix had swollen.

According to the doctor, instead of pushing past the cervix, Harrison trapped it between his head and the pelvic structures, causing it to swell. The doctor told us we had 2 options at this point: Using a vacuum and trying to force him through, or a C-section.

After Elisha and I talked about it, and the doctor consulted with the on-call high risk guy, everyone decided that the C-section was the best bet. Especially since we didn't know what to expect with the vacuum.

Within 45 minutes, after 20 hours in the hospital, and after causing quite a commotion in the OR, our baby was in my arms. The doctors confirmed that it would've been very bad to do the vacuum thing since they hadn't even seen the big part of his head yet. They were sure that the C-section was his only safe way out.

Elisha is recovering really well. The baby is doing awesome. Almost too awesome, right now his appetite is too big for Elisha to keep up with. They expect that once her milk comes in, that will change. We will be coming home soon.

Thank you all for your support. We love hearing from you all.

Pictures!!!

Hello friends and family!

This posting is brought to you today by Uncle Jeremy aka Jason's brother.
Since daddy, mommy and baby Harrison are still in the hospital Jason has asked me to post these pictures for him so that everyone can see what a special and beautiful baby Harrison is!!!

Harrison August Jones was born on May 25th at 8:02 AM. He came into this world weighing 9lbs 15oz and 22 inches long.

Jason will be back soon serving up a wonderful and charming post about his son!
In the mean time, please enjoy these pictures!

The first picture of Harrison August Jones with his mommy!
He is only a few minutes old and he is already smiling for the camera!

Daddy washing Harrison's hair. As Jason said, "Harrison's first day at the spa."

Jason mentioned that Harrison looked like he was being "booked" into the hospital and insisted that we take a picture of it. Harrison decided to play up the part and block his face from the camera.

Harrison and his "Namaw". This is her first grandchild and she could not be happier!!!

Harrison and his "favorite" Uncle Jeremy!

Stay tuned for more pictures later!!!

Last Belly Update!

As the choice of wardrobe dwindles, so do the days left until we are due, which is Sunday. This big guy is content where he is, so we set a date to be induced for Sunday the 24th. If Albus comes before then, on his own, then great. Otherwise his birthday has been chosen.

I do have to say that Jason has been absolutely wonderful through the whole pregnancy. He's been supportive, curious, and funny - all the things to keep us both going. Thanks Jason! Albus is so lucky to have you for a dad:)

Yeah for us!

Mom Rocks!

Mom's are the most wonderful people. Now becoming a mom, I'm feeling the pressure. As an 80's child, I have loved Mr. T. I wanted to share with you his 'Mother' song. It's awesome, and will take you back to the time of fashion and simplicity.

And, since Mr. T rocks, here's another video, one which he discusses fashion. Yeah! Mr. T talking about style!

Update: Almost

So, last Thursday afternoon I thought I was having contractions at work, so I left early. I was already headed to a doctor's appointment, so went to see what my doctor had to say. He didn't even see me, and sent me straight to labor and delivery. Luckily not too far, so I headed over there. Even though things were crazy, like an emergency c-section, they hooked me up to the monitors and all that. The nurses were super nice. So, they checked me, then an hour later checked again. I was actually having contractions, but they wanted to send me home since I wasn't progressing. Too bad my doctor was leaving in the morning as well. So, I went home, actually walked, which was okay since we live across the street from the hospital.

So, I spent the rest of Thursday and Friday with contractions, then the rest of the weekend recuperating. Monday rolled around and now I'm full of energy and feel normal.

Today's doctor appointment was uneventful, though I was told that the baby could come any day now. Ya think? He is due in 10 days! With finals and maternity leave starting, we're absolutely ready to go!

I do have to say that it was actually a good thing to have the false alarm. First, it allowed me know how to work the hospital and where to go. Then, I knew I could get excited about labor because that means 'the end.' Next, I know what contractions feel like. (I was only guessing on Thursday).

So, there is your update from me, Elisha, as that doesn't happen often. Next time I'll be saying how sweet and adorable our baby boy is:)
